The selection process is published through a public call on the PPGMuseu website , respecting the timeframes of the academic calendar of UFBA, and the legal provisions described in the Program By-law  and in UFBA’s By-Laws of Undergraduate and Graduate Teaching.
The admission of both national, and foreign students is contemplated. Twenty (20) openingsare offered for admission per year, and distributed between the two lines of research. Specific criteria to meet the Affirmative Action Policies (considering the Normative Rule of the Ministry of Education, n. 13, from May 11, 2016) are observed for the occupation of those openings, as well as related to foreign applicants.
Applicants who choose to abide by the Affirmative Action Policies are designated may make their option. For admission to the Master's degree, there are reserved openings for self-declared: People with Disabilities (PWD); People of Color; Indigenous People; Trans People (transsexual, transgender and cross-dressers), according to the Resolution N. 01/2017,which establishes procedures forpublic calls and reserves of openings for UFBA’sstrictosensuGraduate Programs’ selection processes.
Foreign students, who meet the requirements of agreements signed by UFBA and/or exchange programs between Brazil and the applicants' countries of origin, can be admitted to the PPGMUSEU after analysis and evaluation of the PPGMUSEU Collegiate, and according to the legislation in force.
Foreign candidates interested in applying must contact PPGMUSEU by e-mail: ppgmuseu@ufba.br, sending a résumé and a research project (in Portuguese) in PDF format, naming the line of research for which they intend to apply, a copy of the passport and other documents required in the application rules for all candidates  (except for specific Brazilian legislation).

Research Line 1:  Museology and Social Development

The investigations related to the Contemporary Museological Theory are considered according to the relationship Heritage, Culture and Preservation, including the museum as a laboratory where the relationship between the individual and cultural goods is processed, and readings and interpretations are produced in the social groups. Social development is understood in the training perspective of the individuals involved in the museum action, in which the cultural heritage is an instrument of social inclusion and citizenship. Discussions on the museological and/or heritage trajectories, agents and the constitution of collections of a diverse nature are predicted, as well as the studies on the cultural heritage, in order to understand and value the diverse sociocultural realities of contemporary societies.

Research Line 2:   Heritage and Communication

This research line privileges investigations on the relationship between heritage, and the museological communication. The stages of the musealisation processes are taken as a reference, including documentation, preventive conservation and dissemination through exhibition designs. Approaches on cultural mediation and audience studies are included as well as the use and management of the cyberspace and digital museums, besides the use of Information and Communication Technologies (TIC).

Study Group on Cyber Museums - GREC

The GREC studies the social memory in a global dimension, through cyberspace and the emergence of locative media. Currently, the group is studying the democratization of museum collections, and other sources of cultural heritage, verifying the possibility of integration between cyber and face-to-face systems. The group also supports research in the field of folk media, through the analysis of miracle rooms of the Brazilian Catholic shrines, in the project “Ex-votosof Brazil”.

Bahia Museology Observatory (OMB)

The Bahian Museology Observatory (OMB) is part of the Department of Museology of the School of Philosophy and Human Sciences (FFCH) of UFBA. Its aims integrate the three lines of Research – History of Bahian Museology; Museology and Afro-Brazilian Memory andMUSEUTERMO: a) to search the path of institutions focused on questions about the material and immaterial cultural heritage, such as museums and managers, collectors, and collections involving cultural and preservation policies in Bahia; b) to investigate the relation of the museological processes and the manifestations of Afro-Brazilian identity memories; c) to analyze connections between Museology and Information Science.
